5 Popular Free Baby Registry Bags – In Depth Review

If you are pregnant or newly postpartum and have seen the sample boxes but don’t know how to get them (or if they’re worth it)… keep reading! I’m sharing how to get each box, what came inside my boxes, and my personal rating on them (as a mom of three). **This post may contain affiliate links. A small commission may be earned.**

This post will tell you all the steps to receive these 5 popular “free” baby boxes, how much they actually cost, and if it’s worth it – from a mom of three.

For a little background for you: I am a mom of three and I just had my third baby December 2024. As I write this post I have a tiny sleeping newborn on my chest – soaking up all the snuggles I can.

If you are pregnant or newly postpartum and don’t already know, there are several “free” baby boxes you can get these days – they are filled with some full size products and lots of samples. I say “free” because most of them have you pay for at least shipping. Even though I am a third time mom, these are still so useful to receive – especially when no two babies are exactly the same.

There are several boxes you can find, but I decided on these 5 to try and share with you: Amazon, Target, Kohl’s, Hey Milestone, and Babylist. I wanted to try Walmart’s as well, but they were out of stock when I looked.

Each box/bag has a few steps in order to receive it, but don’t worry I’ll outline that in each of the different ones. Some of the boxes required you to set up a registry before you could redeem the free gift, I just added the minimum number of items required for the gift. Some required you to have items purchased from your registry, so I just put small items I needed right away and purchased them myself through my registry – it counted for the purchase requirements and then I didn’t have to wait for someone to purchase something.

One nice thing about creating these extra registries (even if I don’t send them to anyone) is I got to use the registry discount once my baby was here! I’ll put the percentage off with each box, but basically each registry gives you 15% off a purchase or an item off your registry once your baby arrives!

If you are a first time mom and you don’t know what registry to use – I loved Babylist the best! You are able to put items from stores like Target, Amazon, Walmart, Nordstrom, as well as the Babylist store itself. You are also able to add cash funds and favors to your list (like bring dinner or come over to clean). I have used it for all three babies as my actual registry I share and it’s been so great!

But the moment you’ve been waiting for… Let’s open some boxes!

1. Have an Amazon Prime account.
2. Create a registry! Remember, just because you create it doesn’t mean you have to share it. Personally I just created one for the Welcome Box!
3. Add at least 10 items to your baby registry.
4. Purchase (or have someone purchase) items off your registry totaling at least $10.
5. Add the Welcome Gift to your cart and checkout!

– Even though this box was smaller than the others, I liked that I got 4 full sized items vs tons of samples, especially as a third time mom.

Hey, Milestone:

Steps to Receive It:

– my rating is a little low because you don’t get a registry discount and the shipping is more expensive than others. I do feel like you get a decent amount of samples and it could be good for a first time mom who wants to try out all the things!

Babylist:

Steps to Receive It:
– Create a Babylist account and registry.
– Create 40% of your registry (Babylist will show you this percentage)
– Have someone (or you) purchase $30 off your registry from the Babylist store.
– Add your Welcome Box and pay $8.95 shipping + taxes.

Rating:
3/10 – In my opinion, not worth the shipping. If you were already going to order a few things from Kohl’s and wanted to add it on (for free shipping) it could be worth it. But this would definitely be at the bottom of my list of Baby Boxes!

Steps to Receive It:
– Create a Target Circle account (this is free).
– Create a baby registy.
– Add 10 items to your registry.
– Make a purchase of at least $10 off your registry.
– Redeem the Welcome Bag in your Circle Offers and add it to your cart.

*You can pay shipping or add a $35 order for shipping and receive free shipping*

Rating:
7.5/10 – You get a LOT of samples and as a first time mom I think this would be so beneficial! Especially the diapers, wipes, and lotions. It can be so hard to know which ones will work for your baby.
I do hate that you can’t pick the bag up in store anymore (at least that’s what my location said) – with my first (2021) I was able to grab it in store and that was so nice!

Overall I think it’s fun to get 1 or 2 of these boxes, especially if they are places you plan to shop at already. As a third time mom I’d probably only recommend the Babylist for purchasing, but the Target and Amazon are essentially free if you shop at those places so you might as well grab them!

Don’t forget to check out my Postpartum Must Haves if you’re a soon to be new mom or if you’re shopping for a new mom, check out these Unique Baby Shower Gifts! And if you’re a mom about to welcome her 2nd, 3rd, or more – I have tons of toddler activities that are easy to set up and keep your toddler occupied and entertained. Perfect for those last weeks of pregnancy and first months of baby! xx Ciara
