We recently were gifted a Yoto Player for my 3 year old and I want to tell you everything I’ve liked and disliked about it so far! **This post may contain affiliate links. A small commission may be earned**
If you’re like me, you have thought about buying either a Yoto Player or a Toniebox – and maybe you’ve weighed out your options. I do not personally have a Toniebox, so this post will strictly be about our experience with the Yoto Play so far.
Everything we have:
– Yoto Player
– Yoto Mini
– Wireless headphones
– Wireless charger
– Yoto Card Holder
– Yoto Adventure Jacket
– Yoto Cards (Dinos, Solar System, Bedtime Stories, and more)
What we think so far:
I am so glad we have one now, but I definitely would have got one sooner (and will be getting another one for my son for Christmas when he is 2 1/2). It is so easy for my toddler to use and understand what is going on.
Setting up the Yoto Player was easy.
You need to download an app and be on wifi. Once you have the player set up and hooked up to wifi, you can start uploading your cards.
For the first time you use the card, you need to be on wifi. (This is a small downside. If you get new cards for your little one, you need to download those cards to the yoto player before you try to use it off wifi.)
Once the player is set up and the cards are downloaded, you can use the player when you’re not on wifi.
This makes it perfect for travel too. The large Yoto Player could be bulky for travel, but you can also get the Travel Player. If your two players are set up from the same account – as long as a card has been uploaded to one of the players it’ll work on the other.
You do need the cards to play them.
They will be downloaded onto your phone’s app account, but in order to play them on the Yoto Player you have to insert the card each time.
Really cool feature!!
Wherever your toddler leaves off on their card, it will remember the spot. So if your child is listening to an audio book and takes their card out or pauses it in the middle of the book, that card will hold their spot until they insert the card in the player again (even if they insert it into a different player on their account)!
It holds a charge and automatically puts itself in sleep mode when not in use.
The Yoto website advertises 24 hours of play time with the Yoto Player.
Additional Features.
– The Yoto Player can play radio stations from your phone without a card inserted.
– You can create your own cards that are personalized for you and your family.
– The Yoto Player tells the weather, date, and interesting facts for the day.
– There is a “drawing” feature where you are instructed how to draw something.
– You can use the Yoto Player as a nightlight, sound machine, and alarm clock.
Which Yoto Player to get?
Yoto Player vs Yoto Mini… my personal opinion: If you are solely hoping for a travel option (something in the car for road trips or for your kid to carry around with them) get the Mini. You do lose some of the features, but it is much smaller. I think if you have an older kiddo, the mini is perfect.
If you have a smaller toddler, the Original Yoto Player is great. Your toddler can see the picture of what the story/song is about and it’s not as easy to lose.
I think both have their time and place, but having both is great. I really love that you can play your card in either player and not lose your spot. This means my toddler can be listening to an audio book in her room and take that same book on the go if we have to leave.
Overall we are really enjoying our Yoto Player. I love that my toddler will grow with the players and be able to use them for a long time. Especially with the release of new audio books for older kiddos such as Narnia.
Feel free to message me if you have any questions or want any updates on our thoughts on the Yoto Player!
