Have you seen the magic paper before? You scratch off the top layer to reveal the colors underneath. I bet you didn’t know it is super easy to make at home with your toddlers! The best part? You can make it whatever colors you want. **This post may contain affiliate links. A small commission may be earned.**
This activity is actually so easy to do. You do need time for the paint to fully dry before scratching away, so be sure to factor that in. I like to color and paint a bunch of pages at once so that we just have a stockpile ready to play with at any moment. If you do this, be sure to label the backs of the papers with the theme or colors.
What you need:
– Cardstock
– Crayons (these work best for us. I’ve heard you can do oil paint sticks, but I’ve never tried!)
– Black Matte Paint
– Popsicle Sticks or Cuticle Sticks for scraping (We love the cuticle sticks, but they can be sharp for young toddlers)
- Get your cardstock and color. you want to make sure you don’t have a lot of white showing from the paper. (If you’re doing multiple sheets of magic paper, you’ll want to label the backs with the colors or themes you’re doing)
- Paint over the entire paper. I tend to lay a piece of butcher paper or cardboard down here so I don’t get paint all over my counter.
- Let the paint dry. Overnight is best!
- Get your cuticle sicks and reveal the colors underneath!
This craft is so easy to make at home. If you do want to partake in the magic paper, but aren’t feeling crafty, you can always purchase it here. But I think your toddler will love to create their own magic paintings and you’ll save a few dollars! xx Ciara
