This is the perfect summer activity to get your toddler outside and entertained. **This post may contain affiliate links. A small commission may be earned**
We are actually not allowed to paint on our sidewalks (gotta love an HOA…), but I still love to do this chalk painting activity on some of the large rocks we have in our garden area. So while you can do this on the sidewalk, you can also switch it up and paint on some rocks like us.
What you need:
– Large Muffin Tin
– Sidewalk Chalk
– Paintbrushes
– Stencils are fun, but not necessary!
I love this activity all summer long, but it is especially great when you have a lot of small pieces of chalk that are too small to use.
This such an easy activity to prep for! Ground, smash, or grate your chalk into a powder. I’ve found the easiest way to do this is to put the color your smashing into a ziplock baggie and roll over it with your rolling pin. The finer the powder the better!
Mix your chalk and water into your muffin tin. You want this to end up a little thinner than a paint consistency. And that’s it!
Let your kids paint the sidewalk or their rocks with the chalk. I love that I could do this activity with my 1 year old and my 3 year old. I also find it to be a way easier clean up on them and their clothes than traditional painting is.
Next summer we will definitely add more stencils or some painters tape in the mix to make some fun shapes. I hope this activity is as much fun for your kiddos as it is for mine! Check out more toddler activities here. xx Ciara
