Winter is here and indoor play is all we can do somedays, but I still want to get my toddlers moving and jumping around! Even though I see all of these people in my social feeds with huge playrooms and basements, I know we don’t have the space for that right now. So I’ve found some fun alternatives. **This post may contain affiliate links. A small commission may be earned.**
As a toddler mom, days can be long no matter the weather but being stuck indoors with toddlers can be a lot, especially on those cold winter days! I always dream about the days we can have a dedicated playroom that has those cute wooden climbers for our toddlers to play on and burn up some energy, but right we don’t have that space. We have a pretty small townhome for our family of 4 (soon to be 5) and space is rare commodity. So I have to be creative with the space we do have – and that means finding low effort activities to set up for my toddlers and toddler toys that are easily stored.
We like to stay busy indoors in a few different ways. I obviously love to do toddler activities with my little ones – I have a ton of indoor activities you can check out. These are all pretty easy set up and keep your little one entertained without a screen. There are a few activities on the list that also burn some energy, but some days even a good activity isn’t enough.
We also try to have some toys on hand that encourage lots of movement, even when we’re stuck indoors (some of these are actually great for outdoors too and since they store so easily, I’m not worried about where they’ll go). We have small indoor bikes that my toddlers love to ride around on – they don’t fold up or anything but they are pretty small! Honestly my kids use them daily, so they don’t really get stored away.
We also love our newer balance beam toy we got this fall. The Busy Beams are the ultimate indoor/outdoor, space saving, versatile toy to have for toddlers and kids. They completely stack into each other and store so small. The best part is you can use them as a balance beam or you can use the middle connectors as stepping stones, a two for one toy for sure. We used them outside this fall and they kept my little ones so entertained, I can’t wait to take them out on an indoor snowy day!
4 Indoor Activities to Set Up:
- Balance Beam
- Stepping Stones
- Jumping Ladders
- Place your balance beams on the ground unconnected and parallel (like a ladder on the ground). Have your kiddos jump over each one!
- Ground is Lava
- Connect some of the balance beams and stones, but leave gaps. Have your kids try to jump or stretch their legs over the gap to not touch the ground
There are so many more games to play with the balance beams that your kids will love, encourage them to be creative. No matter what game you end up going with, your toddlers and kids will burn some energy, use their imagination, and have fun!
I put together a list of some other toys we love or I would love to have that store easily and my toddler’s would love! Oh, and we have this water table that stores so easily – check out my full post on it here. We don’t have a backyard to keep a water table out so this one is perfect for easy storage or on the go.
I hope you know you’re not alone if you have a small space, but still want to figure out a way to have a bunch of fun toys for your littles. We’re all just out here trying to make it work. xx Ciara
