If you don’t know me, I am a mom of 2 soon to be three! Especially with our first baby we were pretty much on a budget for everything. This post shares everything I used on the daily (or pretty close to daily) with a newborn baby (my first or second time). **This post may contain affiliate links. A small commission may be earned.**
As a new mom it can be so overwhelming to know what you need for your little baby on the way. The reality is you can get all the things on all the must have lists and it’ll still be up to what works for your family and your baby! There are so many things that work for one baby that don’t work for another. This happened to us with our second compared to our first. There were definitely a couple items that our first LOVED and our second could care less about, or vice versa.
For me when it came to the newborn/baby stage, we didn’t use a ton of fancy gadgets or toys. Here is everything I will definitely hope to use with baby number three (as long as they like it!):
Solly Wrap – Especially as a mom who is often Solo Parenting (read my blog here), baby wearing is an absolute must for me. I love the Solly because I feel like I can wear them in it as soon as we are home from the hospital. You can adjust it to fit you and your baby. It does have a little bit of a learning curve, but once you practice a couple times it’s really convenient! I actually have three of the wraps and I always keep one in my car! Code Ciaradeanne15 gets you 15% off your wrap!
Burp Cloths – We loved some hand made ones as well as these from amazon. I would have them everywhere to help prevent spit up stains on mom’s and dad’s clothes.
Double Zipper Sleep and Plays – My newborns live in sleep and plays. I rarely get a baby dressed up, it’s just easier for me to keep them in cute jammies. My go to sleep and plays are Old Navy or Carter’s, but as long as it as a double zipper I’m sold. The double zipper is so handy for those late night diaper changes because you don’t have to unzip the whole pajama. I personally RARELY put my baby in real clothes, they were always in pajamas because it made my life easier (and babies look cute in everything).
Bedside Bassinet – I loved this. You can use it as a bedside or a stand alone bassinet. This is so convenient because you really don’t know what is going to work for you or you baby until they’re here. Personally, I loved the bedside feature. It allowed me to easily see and hear baby, and also be able to lay in bed and tap their bottom for comfort when needed. I know this isn’t the case for every person or every baby, so being able to use this as a stand alone bassinet is so handy.
Changing Table – This one might be controversial, but we loved our changing table set up! We’ve lived in a one story and a two story and in both set ups it was a necessity for us. When we were in a one story we had the changing table set up with diapers, wipes, burp cloths, and just took the baby to it for every change. In our two story setup we had the same changing table downstairs for all our main diaper changes and then a small caddy upstairs for night time diaper changes!
SnuggleMe – This one wasn’t a necessity for our first, but when I had 2 under 2 I loved it. It felt like a safe place to set the newborn down if the toddler needed something and my second born loved it.
Baby Bjorn Bouncer – This is another, not super necessary but was so handy for solo parenting and 2 under 2 life. Our first born didn’t nap well in this, but she would just chill for periods of time. This gave me a break or the ability to do some laundry or something. Our second born loved to be rocked in this and he’d often fall asleep in it! This was handy for 2 under 2 because he could stay downstairs and nap while his sister played.
At the end of the day I learned that a lot of gadgets for newborn and infant days are nice, but in no way necessary. And for me personally less is more. I hope this is helpful in your days of newborn! xx Ciara
