This is a perfect activity to do over fall break or when the weather is rainy outside. **This post may contain affiliate links. A small commission may be earned.**
Another easy activity where you don’t need a lot of materials and your toddler will be entertained for a while! We chose to do this with paints, but if you didn’t want to mess with paints today you could totally use markers or crayons to let your toddler create their turkey friend!
What you need:
– Cardboard
– Blue Tape
– Glue
– Construction Paper (White, Black, Orange)
– Paint
Before you get started (or before you brush this off like you can’t do this) remember, your toddler is going to have fun. Even if your turkey is wonky… because mine sure it… your toddler is going to have fun! Don’t let the fear of your “bad drawing” stop you from creating these easy activities your toddler will love!
- Get your cardboard and create a half circle with blue tape – this is the face of the turkey.
- Cut your eyeballs (2 white ovals and 2 small black circles) and your beak, and glue them on. Let this dry before you have your toddler paint.
- Create 6-10 lines of tape off your turkey’s face to the edge of the cardboard. Connect those lines with more blue tape (Check out the image of my taped bird above). These are your feathers.
- Have your toddler paint (or color) all the feathers of the turkey! Let them have fun here, it’ll look cute regardless.
- Let the paint fully dry.
- Carefully peel the blue tape off the cardboard. Some pieces stick, so try to be extra careful here.
- Display your cute little turkey!
At the end of the day, I love to set these activities up to help my toddler with skills – but also to give myself a little moment of peace and quiet! Painting always feels overwhelming, but the more you paint the better your toddler is with the mess and the less overwhelming it becomes.
Whether you try this activity, modify it with coloring, or you just read through and decided maybe next time…. I hope you know, you’re doing a great job. Check out more easy to set up activities for your toddler. xx Ciara
