Top Toddler Toys from 2024 (Archived Gift Guide)

This post was originally published as my 2024 Toddler Toy Gift Guide and is now archived. If you’re looking for this year’s updated list, head over to my Top Toys for Toddlers 2025 Gift Guide!

This 2024 list is based on what my 3-year-old and 1-year-old loved last year, the toys I saw selling out multiple times, and what was trending during the holiday season. I’m keeping it here because so many of these toys are still amazing options if you’re shopping secondhand, want more toddler gift inspiration, or are curious about what was hot last Christmas.

1. Light Box

This toy was one of the most popular toddler toys of 2024 and sold out multiple times — especially since it there a version under $30. The box lights up from underneath, and kids use transparent shapes to fill in pictures, almost like a glowing “color by number.” It encourages fine motor skills, shape recognition, and early puzzle-solving.

I have a full review on the 3 different light boxes available and what we like about each of them.

2. Sensory Light Box

The upgraded version of the light box became a huge winner in our house. This one has a sensory component, you can shine the light through water, add sensory items, and create interactive play experiences. It comes with accessories that encourage imaginative play, and my toddler loved it so much she played with it for hours at a time. If you have a 2, 3, or 4 year old, this version adds an educational and sensory twist that keeps kids engaged longer.

3. Balance Beams

These were a big hit because they combine gross motor play with problem-solving. What I love most is that they stack into each other for easy storage (a parent’s dream!). They can be used indoors or outdoors and give toddlers a safe, fun way to work on balance and coordination.

4. Spiderman Car and Friends

Superheroes were everywhere in 2024, and this Spiderman car set was especially popular. The big car holds the whole crew, and the two side motorcycles shoot off for extra action. It’s perfect for imaginative play and definitely one of the toys that held my 3-year-old’s attention.

5. Bluey Playsets

Bluey toys flew off shelves last year, especially the Hammerbarn Playset (which often sold out). Two strong alternatives were the Bluey’s House with Socks and Muffin and the Bluey Beach House. These sets were great for encouraging pretend play and storytelling — perfect for Bluey-loving toddlers.

6. VTech Wagon

This interactive wagon works for younger toddlers but can grow with them for years. It’s both a pull-along toy and a learning activity center, with buttons, songs, and interactive features. My 1-year-old loved the wagon function, while my 3-year-old still found plenty to play with.

7. Play Kitchen

Play kitchens are timeless, and 2024 was no exception. My toddlers use ours daily for pretend play, cooking, and role-playing. If you don’t have one, I shared some great options here:

If you already own a kitchen, fun wooden accessories and pretend food sets made the perfect add-ons last holiday season.

8. Magna-Tiles Kits

Magna-Tiles were everywhere in 2024, and the themed kits were especially popular. Some favorites included:

The Micro Magna-Tiles also made fantastic stocking stuffers. These sets encourage STEM learning while keeping play open-ended. They made an even larger set to check out too!

Since 2024, Magna-Tiles has released even more fun themed kits that are worth checking out in my 2025 Gift Guide — they just keep getting cooler each year!

9. Vida the Vet

Pretend doctor sets are always a hit, and Vida the Vet stood out as one of the cutest versions for toddlers. It encourages nurturing play and imagination, my toddler loved using it to check heartbeats, fix boo-boos, and play “doctor” with stuffed animals.

10. Cloud Castle

The Cloud Castle foam set was a huge favorite for active, imaginative play. Toddlers could build forts, slides, and chairs, and we combined it with other foam pieces for even bigger builds. It was a big-ticket item in 2024 but one that provided endless play value.

There are new prints in my 2025 gift guide that are so adorable!

11. Yoto Player

The Yoto Player (and its smaller travel-friendly version, the Yoto Mini) continued to be one of the most talked-about toddler gifts. It’s a screen-free audio player where kids use cards to listen to stories, music, or educational content. Compared to the Toniebox, the Yoto tends to grow with kids longer and has more versatile card options. The cards store neatly in a case, making it easy to travel with, and the player can be used with or without headphones.

I shared my full Yoto Player Review here if you want all the details. Check out if the Yoto Player keeps it’s placement compared to the brand new Toniebox 2.0 in my 2025 Gift Guide!

Honorable Mentions

  • Sensory Table – Great for art, coloring, and sensory bins with water, sand, or rice. Our Favorite Table (the legs fold up!)
  • Magnetic Puzzle – Perfect for travel or restaurants, combining puzzle play with art. The pieces are all contained in the toy so it’s perfect for travel!
  • Easel – A classic toy that grows with kids and works for crafts, painting, and drawing.

Wrapping Up the 2024 List

These were the toys that stood out most in 2024 for both my 1-year-old and 3-year-old. Many are still fantastic gift ideas today, especially if you’re shopping secondhand or want inspiration for toddler birthdays and holidays.
