- Tissue Paper Bats and Ghosts
What you’ll need:
– Piece of construction paper
– Tissue Paper
– Glue
– Marker
Cut some squares of tissue paper and crumple them into little balls. Draw your favorite halloween pictures. We have done bats, pumpkins, and ghosts. Have a pile of glue or let your toddler have the glue bottle and let them decorate their pictures! - Cotton Ball Ghost and Pumpkin
What you need:
– Cardstock and/or Construction Paper
– Marker
– Cotton Balls
– Glue
– Paint (optional)
Draw the outline of your ghost and pumpkin. Let your toddler glue on cotton balls (you can also put a bunch of glue dots all over for your toddler to place cotton balls on if you don’t want them to have the full glue bottle). Cut our your faces with construction paper and glue them on.
Optional painting: Before you glue the face on, let your cotton balls completely dry. Then let your toddler paint the cotton balls. This does absorb a lot of paint, but it kept my toddler occupied for a long time. Let the paint dry and then add the face. - Halloween Puzzle
What you need:
– Qtips
– Empty Cardboard Box
– Butcher Paper
– Markers
– Paint (or food coloring or markers)
– Screwdriver (to poke the holes)
More detailed instructions for this Halloween Puzzle here.
Cover your box in butcher paper and draw your picture for your puzzle. Cut your qtips in half and dye the tips by soaking them in watered down paint. Make sure you have all your colors from you picture. You’ll want these to dry for a couple hours! Poke holes around your picture with your screwdriver. Once the qtips are dry, let your toddler complete the puzzle by sticking the qtips into the matching colors! - Halloween Hide and Seek
What you’ll need:
– Construction Paper
– Markers
– Easel (or other space with butcher paper)
– Blue Tape
If you don’t want to draw all your shapes, check out the Halloween Hide and Seek page with a free PDF Printable.
Cut your construction paper into 8 rectangles. Draw 8 halloween themed items on the construction paper. Draw those same 8 items on your easel. Have your toddler close their eyes while you “hide” the 8 pieces of construction paper. I use the blue tape to place these all over the kitchen and living room walls! Let your toddler find each piece and match them to the ones on their easel. - Scrap Paper Pumpkin
What you need:
– Construction Paper
– Glue
– Scissors
Cut or tear up your colored construction paper. “Draw” your item with your glue. Let your toddler stick all the scrap papers to the glue to create the shape! - Painting Pumpkins
What you need:
– Pumpkins (real or fake)
– Paint
– Paint brushes
This one is especially great when your little one is too young for carving pumpkins. Lay out their paint (we use these little palettes) and let them paint away! - “Spray Paint” Ghosts
What you need:
– Paint
– Cardstock
– Painters Tape
– Spray Bottles (here are the ones we use)
– Marker for the outline
More detailed instructions can be found here.
Draw your shapes on a piece of cardstock and cut them out. Tape those pieces onto a whole sheet of cardstock. In your shakers mix water and paint. I do about a 1:1 paint to water ratio (you want the pain color to still be pigmented, if it seems too light when they spray add more paint) Take it outside and and let your toddler spray the different colors all over. Let it dry. Take off the original cut outs to reveal the white space still under them. - Potions Bath
What you need:
– Mixer
– Body wash/bubble bath (we used Tubby Todd! Save 10% with the link)
– Water
– Bath color tablets (optional)
– Whatever spooky bath toys you want (our favorites).
Dissolve a color tablet in about 1/2 cup of warm water. Mix the colored water with 4-6 pumps of your favorite body wash. Mix for 3-5 minutes. The soap should whip up and create a good amount of bubble “meringue.” I like to give my kids the bubble foam in containers so they can play with it before it dissolves into the bath. - Ghost Handprint Keepsake
What you need:
– Air Dry Clay
– White Paint
– Black Paint
This keepsake takes a few days with letting the clay dry and then letting the paint dry, but it makes such a fun little keepsake.
Roll or press your clay out to about a 1/3 inch thickness. Have your toddler press their hand into the clay. Cut around their handprint and smooth the sides using your finger and some warm water. Let your clay dry for 2-3 days. Have your toddler paint the clay with white paint (I let my toddler sprinkle some clear sparkles over it too). Let the white paint dry and then add a cute little ghost face with some black paint. - Ghost and Pumpkin Pizzas
What you need:
– Pizza dough
– Marinara
– Cheese
– Pepperoni
Cut your dough into pumpkins and ghost shapes. Let your toddler help with the marinara and cheese. If you’re feeling extra festive, cut the pepperonis to be faces for the pumpkins and ghosts! - Halloween Shape Sort
What you need:
– Butcher Paper
– Construction Paper
– Markers
– Painters Tape
On your butcher paper draw 3-4 Halloween shapes; we chose pumpkins, ghosts, bats, and brooms. On construction paper cut those same shapes in various sizes and colors. Have your toddler close their eyes and “hide” the shapes all over. Typically I tape them on the walls of our kitchen and living room. Have your toddler find the shapes and sort them on the butcher paper. - DIY Halloween Magic Paper
What you need:
– Cardstock
– Crayons (or oil paint sticks)
– Black Matte Paint (this one always works for us)
– Cuticle sticks for scraping (optional, we use these ones)
With your crayons color your cardstock paper, fully. It is important you leave no cardstock showing. For Halloween I chose to do orange and purple stripes. Once the cardstock is fully covered, paint over the entire paper with black matte paint. Let this paint dry fully. Once the paper is fully dry, let your toddler scratch off the paint with a popsicle stick or cuticle sticks. Scratching off the black paint will reveal the colors underneath!
Helpful hint: Prep several pieces of magic paper. If you are making them different themes, write the theme or the colors used on the back of the paper so you know which on you are grabbing for future projects! - Ice Rescue – Halloween Edition
What you need:
– Small Halloween themed toys (we grabbed these ones)
– Cupcake tins
– Spray bottles
– Salt
Place the small toys into a cupcake tin. Fill with water and freeze. Once they are frozen, fill your spray bottles with warm salt water. Get all the ice out of the cupcake tin. Have your toddler spray the ice to free the toys. If the weather permits, take this one outside. If not, place the ice in a large cake tin and let your toddler spray them inside.
