13 Activities of Halloween Toddler Edition

My toddler is finally at the age where she is loving all the themed activities for Halloween. This list gives a brief how-to for each one. If there is a more detailed post, I’ve linked it for you to check out.

1. Tissue Paper Bats and Ghosts

What you’ll need:

• Construction paper
• Tissue paper
• Glue
• Marker

Cut tissue paper into 1 inch squares. Crumple squares of tissue paper into little balls. Draw Halloween shapes (bats, ghosts, pumpkins) on construction paper. Let your toddler glue tissue paper balls all over the shapes. Super simple and fun!

2. Cotton Ball Ghost and Pumpkin

What you’ll need:

• Cardstock or construction paper
• Marker
• Cotton balls
• Glue
• Paint (optional)

Draw a ghost or pumpkin. Let your toddler glue cotton balls inside the outline. You can add construction paper faces or let your toddler paint the cotton balls once dry.

3. Halloween Puzzle

What you’ll need:

• Q-tips
• Cardboard box
• Butcher paper
• Markers
• Paint (or food coloring)
• Screwdriver

Full details here. Draw a picture on butcher paper and glue to your box. Dye Q-tip ends and let them dry. Poke holes around your design. Let your toddler complete the puzzle by color-matching Q-tip pieces.

4. Halloween Hide and Seek

What you’ll need:

• Construction paper
• Markers
• Butcher paper and easel
• Blue tape

Full details here. Draw 8 Halloween shapes on construction paper and also on your easel butcher paper. Hide the paper pieces around the house using blue tape (just stick them onto the wall and such). Let your toddler find and match them.

5. Scrap Paper Pumpkin

What you’ll need:

• Construction paper
• Glue
• Scissors

Tear or cut up colored paper. Draw a pumpkin outline with glue and let your toddler fill it in with scraps.

6. Painting Pumpkins

What you’ll need:

• Real or fake pumpkins
• Paint and brushes

This is the perfect no-carve pumpkin idea for toddlers. Just let them paint freely!

7. “Spray Paint” Ghosts

What you’ll need:

• Paint
• Cardstock
• Painters tape
• Spray bottles
• Marker

Full details here. Cut out ghost or pumpkin shapes. Tape them to cardstock. Fill spray bottles with watered-down paint and let your toddler spray over the paper to reveal spooky outlines.

8. Potions Bath

What you’ll need:

• Mixer
• Bubble bath/body wash (we used Tubby Todd! Save 10% with the link)
• Water
• Color tablets (optional)
• Spooky bath toys

Mix bubble bath with colored water for foamy potions (mix on high for a couple minutes and watch the magic happen). Put in the bath or in bowls for sensory fun.

Not only does this activity spark imagination, but it’s also amazing for fine motor skills—scooping, pouring, and mixing are all part of the fun. And the best part? Zero cleanup outside the tub.

9. Ghost Handprint Keepsake

What you’ll need (Amazon list here):

• Air-dry clay
• White paint
• Black paint

Full details here. Press your toddler’s hand into clay. Once dry, paint white and add a ghost face. This one takes a couple days but makes a sweet keepsake.

10. Ghost and Pumpkin Pizzas

What you’ll need:

• Pizza dough
• Marinara
• Cheese
• Pepperoni

Use cookie cutters to shape dough. Let your toddler help decorate with cheese and toppings. Bake and enjoy!

11. Halloween Shape Sort

What you’ll need:

• Butcher paper
• Construction paper
• Markers
• Painters tape

Draw Halloween shapes on butcher paper. Cut matching shapes from construction paper (cut them in various sizes and colors). Hide them and let your toddler find and sort. You can also just put all the shapes into one basket and let your toddler grab from there and sort.

12. DIY Halloween Magic Paper

What you’ll need:

• Cardstock
• Crayons or oil sticks
• Black matte paint
• Cuticle sticks

Full details here. Color the whole paper with bright crayons. Paint over with black matte paint. Once dry, let your toddler scratch off to reveal the colors underneath.\

13. Ice Rescue – Halloween Edition

What you’ll need:

• Small Halloween toys
• Cupcake tin
• Pipettes
• Toy Hammer
• Salt (opt)

Freeze toys in a cupcake tin. Let your toddler spray with warm salt water to rescue the toys. Great sensory fun!

14. Protein-Packed Halloween Dirt Cups

A healthier spin on the classic Halloween party treat! These dirt cups are made with protein-packed yogurt and chocolate protein powder instead of pudding, then topped with crushed cookies and a gummy worm. Add candy eyeballs, gummy spiders, or a cookie “tombstone” for a festive Halloween twist. Fun for kids, but you’ll love them too!

No-Carve Pumpkin Ideas for Toddlers

If you want to decorate pumpkins without the knives and carving mess, here are four fun and kid-friendly ways to do it:

1. Tattoo Pumpkins – Use removable tattoos (even glow-in-the-dark ones!) and let your toddlers press them on with a damp sponge or cloth.
2. Tissue Paper Pumpkins – Mix white glue with a little water, then have your kids “paint” on tissue paper squares for a colorful, textured look.
3. Painted Pumpkins – Grab some washable paint and let your little ones go wild with color and creativity.
4. Cookie Cutter Pumpkins – Use metal cookie cutters and a mallet to punch out fun shapes. I like to do this before removing the top so the pumpkin stays more stable while being tapped.

These no-carve options keep things safe for toddlers while still letting them get creative with pumpkin decorating!
