This DIY Halloween Puzzle is easy to make and you can keep all the pieces to let your toddler do it over again! **This post may contain affiliate links. A small commission may be earned.**

I love this puzzle because you probably have all the stuff you need and you can adapt it to your kids age, interests, or the holiday season! The qtips do take a couple hours to dry – so this might be an activity to prep the night before!

What you need:
– Empty Box
Butcher Paper (optional, but it makes it easier to color your picture)
– Qtips (cut in half)
– Paint, food coloring, or markers
– A screwdriver (this is the easiest way to poke the holes)

First decide what you’re going to create your puzzle and what colors you are going to need. For halloween we did a cute ghost and jack-o-lantern. Once you know what colors you’re going to need, you can start dying your qtips. I personally do paint and water – I think it’s the fastest way with vibrant colors. You can also do food coloring and water, or you can color each qtip. Let these dry for a few hours or overnight.

Then wrap your empty box with butcher paper and draw your pictures. You can definitely draw straight on the box, but I find the white butcher paper makes it easy to see the colors. Puncture holes all around your picture for your toddler to place the qtips in.

This is a great activity for fine motor skills and color recognition! You can save the puzzle to do multiple times, or even create different pictures on the different sides of the box.
